Top of the Barn

This is a sketch in preparation for my painting for the Women's Art Club Miniature Masterpieces event for their FUN RAISER in October. This is not creating the light and mood that I am hoping to express with my final painting. I am hoping this exercise will aid me in the final effort.

A Tomato A Day

This is from my daily painting exercise. I have painted 178 tomatoes, using only three colors and white.
I wanted to make my own color chart and decided to do it with an image instead of just squares of color.
This one took less than and hour and I love everything about it.

# 1

                                               "Standing By", 3" x 3 3/4", oil on canvas

Looking down from the dock on boats standing by, waiting for their owner to take them out to   sea. The water was almost black, the morning light cool, turning the wooden seats lavender.

One Hour Paintings

I've decided to do another exercise in my continuing effort to become a better painter. One obstacle I sorely need to overcome is the amount of time it takes me to do a painting-way too long. This could be my fear of putting the wrong thing down or not being able to condense my subject into simple shapes and values. I always seem to learn better by doing, so I've decided to do one hour paintings. I won't be able to do this everyday, but I should be able to do this three to four times a week. The goal is to train my eye to break things down into simple shapes and values when putting it down on canvas. I plan to start out very small, condensing the image and hopefully the time to represent it with paint. Here goes....
